How Hip is Hutch?
Posted Dec 30, 2008 at 03:30pm by Jade Piros

Is Hutch a “cool” community? What needs to happen to make Reno County a great place to live, work and play? You may have heard that Rebecca Ryan is coming to Hutch to talk about cool communities (for those of you who haven’t heard of her, see Aubrey’s blog HERE or Ryan’s website HERE.) Ryan will be speaking at the Chamber’s annual meeting on February 9th and offering a message that brings hope to towns like ours—you don’t have to be a big city to be a cool one.

By the way, the chamber is offering deeply discounted tickets to Rebecca Ryan for all YP Reno County members. Order your $20 ticket for dinner and her presentation HERE.

So weigh in. We’ve been tossing around ideas on this blog for a while now--is Reno County capable of becoming a place that attracts the next generation? Is it progressive? Stuck in the past?

Yes We Can!!

In keeping with the theme of the past presidential election and to answer Jade's question, Reno County can make the difference and YP is proof that we are interested in making it happen. I'm anxious to hear what she has to say and how the community will respond. I know I want to live, work and play in a cool community--how 'bout you?

Let's define some terms...

I want to extend the invitation to all YP's to attend the annual Chamber meeting. I think we should be at that meeting in force. We should share our opinions on what parts of Ms. Ryan's message we agree or disagree with. Read the book. Invite your boss and your parents, your kids' teachers and your Sunday school class to the meeting. I think this could be a great community conversation. And, yes, I want to live in a cool, hip, progessive community. Honestly, I don't think that describes Hutch as it is now. I think we will soon be having conversations about whether or not Hutch is even interested in being that in the future. But what do I mean when I use those words? What does cool, hip and progressive mean to you? Maybe we need to define some of these terms.
