As a candidate for the County Commission District 2 seat I would like to find out what everyone thinks about the spread in The News yesterday. Since two seats are up for grabs this year this is a very important election. It will determine the direction Reno County goes in the next four years. Even though a lot of you may not be voting for a commissioner this election our commissioners make decisions that affect all of us. So your opinions on these topics are important. Just don't make fun of my goofy looking picture.

It's about time someone support law enforcment in this county! As someone who was once very close to the RNSO, I could not agree more that the deputies are underpaid. This county is losing it's good officers, both due to pay and current management. It's time to rethink BOTH. And what a fabulous photo you have...ever considered modeling? Best of luck!

I have no idea how sheriff department's pay compares to the Hutch Police Officers, or even other sheriff departments, other than hearing that there is a considerable discrepancy. closing that gap should be important in order to build an experienced, talented staff. I would guess the turnover rate is higher at the sheriffs department level b/c officers can earn better wages elsewhere? I found it interesting that most candidates did not see an issue with the amount of pay commissioners make. I support hiring a county administrator and lower wages for commissioners.

I too was surprised that most of the other candidates felt the commissioners weren't overpaid. If a county administrator is hired I would propose the commissioners take a $20,000 a year pay cut. I think this is a subject that really needs to be addressed at the Candidate Forum. I want these individuals to tell the voters why they think the commissioners salary is adequate. It makes no sense to me. If you are doing less work then $33,000 is just outrageous. By saving $60,000 a year that would help pay a majority of a county administrators salary.

Kevin, I applaud your efforts to get involved in local government. You did a great job at the forum last night. I see you made the front page with you great counterpoint: "When you're talking about taxpayer money, nothing should be behind closed doors."
