Is NASCAR a sport??
Posted Jun 4, 2008 at 03:04pm by Michael Lizalde
I figured this would be a good topic to get people talking!
First off, I'll start by saying I'm not a NASCAR fan. I don't understand it. Everyone can only make their car so good, but can't improve it past some limits. Left turns for 4 hours. And what's with the teammate deal? I have never seen teammate associated with an individual accomplishment. It's like a baseball playing hitting a walk-off home run to win the world serious, and only he gets the trophy, but his teammates get recognized for helping keep the score close.....
But I got to thinking, is it really a sport. I personally think a sport should require some kind of athletic ability. I don't think fishing/hunting or poker as sports, but they are also referred to as that.
What makes NASCAR a sport and not just an event? What kind of athletic ability do you have to have to be a NASCAR driver?
I'm interested to know what you think.

My thoughts on NASCAR is this... Our country is fighting with the economic hardships with the gas prices. So why are people investing money on watching men and women waste gas? If gas was supple and affordable like the good ol' days, I would not have a problem, but personally, NASCAR is offending me! .

I never thought of it that way. Good point! They do use a lot of gas during the race, practice, and hauling the race cars from race to race.
I wonder why no one has brought that up before..... .

Nascar??
Nobody talks about the wasting of gas and pointlessness of Nascar because it's a cash cow. As long as Nascar is making millions and millions of dollars, the "sport" will continue and blue color folks will continue to spend their hard earned dollars on Budweiser and Earnhardt jackets. .

It's a sport
Let me start off by saying that anyone who can spend 3-4 hrs in a car where the temperature can reach 130-140 degrees fighting the car in each turn is an athlete. These drivers have to be in tremendous shape to do what they do. The fuel that gets used up during a race is nothing compared to the fuel used by our politicians flying around the country in private jets telling us how we need to be more energy efficient. I think people need to look at the way they are living their own lives before being critical of others. For those of us who are race fans it\\\'s entertainment. With all the things wrong in the world we are living in we need all the entertainment we can get. So I will continue buying my Earnhardt stuff, I will continue drinking Amp, and this fall when I\\\'m sitting in the stands at Kansas Speedway I will be raising my beer and shouting WHOOOOOO everytime that .
