CONNECTION

How Young Professionals Are Making the Connection

The Connection Team is all about initiating and promoting efforts in Reno County to unite people, businesses and organizations. We connect our members to the unique assets and people in Reno County by coordinating informative luncheons on topics of special interest, encouraging political engagement through the exposure of legislative forums and welcoming new YP's to the area.

2010 YP Summit

Connection is planning a YP Summit to be held in Hutchinson this Spring. This will be a chance for young professionals from across the state to gather together in a conference-like setting for business and personal development as well of sharing of ideas. We’ll be announcing more information soon.

YP Luncheons

To benefit members, YP Luncheons are held on a bi-monthly basis in Hutchinson. Each session takes place over the noon hour, includes lunch, and features a theme of importance to YP's. Past YP Luncheons have been held to help YP's learn about buying a new home, recycling, volunteerism and starting a business.

Are you interested in presenting a YP Luncheon? Please fill out and submit our request form. YP Luncheons are open to members and non-members.Check out the calendar for the next scheduled luncheon…here, you’ll also be able to RSVP and purchase your ticket.

Speed Networking

New in 2010, Connection will be hosting at least two members-only Speed Networking sessions. Here’s a chance to find out what YP’s are doing, and share your interests as well. Our members have said they are getting to know each other, but they don’t necessarily know what each other do for a living. Here’s an opportunity to make a connection and talk about your “business side”!

Candidate Forums

To introduce members to local legislators and political issues, Connection co-sponsors candidate forums before the general election. Additionally, we promote legislative forums held by the Chamber of Commerce during the legislative session. These enable all attendees to converse and ask questions of their state legislators.

YP Reno County Backstage Pass

Connection also helps introduce potential employees and interns to Reno County and provide them an immediate connection to other people in their demographic through the YP Reno County Backstage Pass. The Backstage Pass is an internship and recruitment program Connection developed to help members plug into career opportunities and help serve the business community by assisting in their efforts of recruitment and retention.

VOICE

Finding It and Making Sure It's Heard

As young professionals we have a great opportunity to influence and shape Reno County. But, in order to do that, we must first find our voice. The goal of the Voice action team is to find out who our members are and what they care about and share it with whomever will listen.

The Voice Action Team's first major project was the YP Reno County Survey that many of you took. Since that data was collected in early 2008, we have shared the information with our members and various community groups, and are now using the results to generate YP events and opportunities. These new ideas stem from our members' responses to the "Three Wishes for YP" survey question. The four overall responses to that question were: encourage community involvement, establish a lasting structure for YP Reno County, facilitate social and professional networking, and promote growth. Voice has made a commitment to listening to our members and taking action. We will use these four "wishes" and future ideas to influence positive change and involvement in our Reno County community.

Voice has already generated many opportunities for YP members to participate in, and we'd love to see you at a few of these:
  • YP Reno County LLC, a life and leadership consulting program for teens
  • HCC Leadership Mentors, a program that matches YP members and HCC students
  • Mingle giving opportunities, fundraisers for local programs
  • United Way Work Day
  • Soup Kitchen
Be sure to check the YP Calendar for volunteer opportunities and sign-ups!

Besides these Voice-sponsored events, we are also working on building stronger relationships with young professionals in the rural communities of our county and we are developing a "Get on Board" program that will promote YP involvement on our local boards and committees.

If you have an interest in any of these projects or would like to join Voice, email us at voice@yprenocounty.com. You can also learn more and/or sign up to volunteer for our service programs by signing in and visiting "Volunteer" in myYP.

PULSE

The Social Aspect of Young Professionals

Pulse is the social committee responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of YP's social events and activities. Our goal is to create events to help build a peer-based network of young professionals in our community who work together and play together, with a long-lasting interest in this community.

We currently host a Monthly Mingle on the 2nd Thursday of every month as well as 2 annual parties. Future plans include a YP "Soiree", a family pool party and possible tailgating.

Pulse is also the home of YPAAA, the short for Young Professionals Athletics and Activities Association, it is your opportunity to get involved in the recreational aspects of the community. Teams are added as demand merits and we currently list all activities on the Calendar pages by the date of the event and also by the team registration deadline if applicable. Visit the calendar to see up and coming deadlines or to find out when you can participate or watch a YP athletic event or activity. Past activites include Yoga classes, Knitting days at Yarn, Co-Ed Softball, Co-Ed Sand Volleyball, Men's Basketball and Book Club.

Our social and networking opportunities will link you with like-minded young professionals and help ease the transition into a new community and career or engage you if already settled and calling Hutchinson home.

If you have an interest in any of these projects or would like to join Pulse, email us at pulse@yprenocounty.com.
